Under 10 Boys Yellows hit the mid-season heights in 2011-12
Written by Ian Kilpatrick Thursday, 08 December 2011
It’s a scary place to be! After a 4-0 home win against Wilford Lions Blue last Saturday in our 8th League game of the season, the Under 10 Yellows are currently sitting 2 points clear atop Division 5 of the Saturday Young Elizabethan League. It’s a fantastic credit to the boys that they have generated a rich vein of League form by improving their style of football from week to week.
In our last update in the September Newsletter, the team was already showing great strength of character and no small attacking flair having won 2 out of their 3 matches in which they scored 10 goals and conceded just 2. At the time of writing (4th December 2011), the Under 10 Yellows have extended that run by winning 7 out of their 8 league games, having scored a total of 31 goals and conceding 7.
Ladies First Team FA Cup Run Comes to an End
Written by Steve Weatherby Thursday, 08 December 2011
The first team’s FA Cup run came to an end at home against Coventry Sphinx. The previous round demolition of West Bridgford was never going to be repeated against a well-organised, physical team from the West Midlands Regional League. Chances were few for both teams and as the game wore on it looked destined for extra time and penalties. With 10 minutes to go Sphinx won a free kick on the edge of the box and winger Chantelle Stanley hit a beauty towards the top corner which Lian Rock could only help into the net. And that was that. We still had a couple of chances to equalise but failed with both.
Under 7s Boys Goal Spree
Written by The News Desk Thursday, 08 December 2011
“Old Big Ed”, Brian Clough was fond of telling us that it only takes a second to score a goal. He also, famously said that football was a simple game – all you do is score one more goal than the opposition.
Well, Brian would have been proud of the Arnold Under 7s! The Under 7 team have notched up a tremendous goal scoring record.
Chris Macrae tells us that after just 11 games they have already reached the incredible milestone of scoring over 100 goals & conceded only 6 times.
I’m sure that “Old Big Ed” would have some pearl of wisdom to praise that achievement!
Just as important or more so, however, is that they are developing fantastically as a team & all of them have improved significantly as individual players.
ALL SMILES AT THE U.14 Maroons (boys)
Written by The News Desk Thursday, 08 December 2011
Nine games into the new season (6 league games and 3 cup games) and the U14 Maroons have had a very health record having won 8 lost 1 – and are currently sitting 2nd in Division 1 of the YEL league. Plus, they are still in the two main cup competitions.
“Whilst the lads have played some exceptional passing football this season - which is a credit to them all – they all appreciate that the season has a long way to go and the hard work needs to continue if they are to fulfil their early promise” says Tim Hampson.
